What changed

A Legal Metrology amendment notified on 13 February 2026 (G.S.R. 128(E)) requires e-commerce entities selling imported goods to provide a searchable country-of-origin filter. The requirement applies from 1 July 2026.

Who it affects

Marketplaces and online sellers of imported consumer goods in India.

What to do

Confirm that product listings carry accurate origin data and that the filter is live on all storefronts. Review the CCPA e-commerce and dark-pattern rules at the same time, since consumer-protection enforcement is active: CCPA fined two companies in June 2026.
