The four Labour Codes
Four Labour Codes took effect on 21 November 2025, replacing 29 labour laws. They require written appointment letters, give fixed-term staff parity and gratuity after one year, bring gig workers into social security and move to single registrations.
ReadVisas and expatriate staff
Foreign staff working in India need the visa that matches their role: an employment visa for skilled hires, a business visa for set-up and meetings, or the e-B-4 for specialists commissioning equipment. Expatriates on Indian payroll also come into provident fund.
ReadSocial security and payroll benefits
Social security now sits under the Code on Social Security, in force from 21 November 2025. The EPF Scheme 2026 covers foreign nationals on Indian payroll, fixed-term staff earn gratuity after a year, and central and state schemes subsidise new jobs.
